The Boy who Harnessed the Wind:

Updated: Jul 1, 2020

With current global efforts targeted at fighting the Corona Virus outbreak, Climate Activism fight has taken a backseat. Reparations are happening in cities usually shrouded in smog and the Himalayas have become visible for the first time in 30 years. So, while the Earth takes a break from the unnecessary pace of life many of us have been striving to achieve, our activist soldiers are also lying dormant. We can step back and acknowledge the traction gained by the movement and make plans for which trajectory to take when the time is right.

For decades, the world has been run by people who implement a very rigid framework, and for anyone who steps out of line with this framework, they are labelled as ‘abnormal’. Consequently, instead of criminalising these people, we should see them as a source of inspiration and praise their ingenuity. It is these new ideas and voices we need to educate others and help bring us away from ecological Collapse.

For anyone seeking a good film to watch, I can highly recommend The Boy Who Harnessed The Wind. It depicts the struggles a young boy in Malawi faces while trying to convince his stubborn father that he could produce a water source from wind energy and save the village from an extensive drought period. We should learn to adopt his relentlessness to break the mould that society has formed, and use community efforts to live a much greener existence.
